The next thing we need to know about polygons is that they're 'closed' shapes. It means that the sides are connected so that there are no graps.
The area inside the shape is separated from the area outside the shape, and there's no way to get from the inside to the outside without crossing line.
And the last thing we need to know about polygons is that they're 2 dimensional, or flat shapes. That means that all the vertices must lie on the same plane.
If any one of the vertices were to move forwards or backwards, so that it wasn't in the same plane as all the other vertices, then it wouldn't be a flat shape anymore. Flat shape are also called planar shapes because all of their points are on the same plane.
You can use polygons to make 3d shapes, like a box for example, which is not a polygon
Circle is a curved shape, so it's not a polygon
so the curved part disqualifies it as a polygon. Polygon has to have only straight sides
Also if any lines cross so it can't be a polygon

Thanks to this video, I learned what a polygon and types of a polygon are.A polygon is a simple closed polyline and the end part the plane that it bounds. The vertices of the polyline are called the vertices of the polygon. The line connecting the two vertices is not the diagonal of the polygon. Now what’s all this?
1) Sides - are straight line segments that make up a polygon.
2) Angles( angles of a polygon) - are just angles which are formed by intersecting line segments(sides). In fact in Greek, the word polygon literally means many angles(poly - many, gon - angles).
3) Vertices - are points where the sides intersect.
4) Closed shape - is a shape with connected sides, so there is no gaps. The area inside the shape is separated from the area outside of it.
5)Flat shape( two dimensional or planar) - is a shape where all vertices lie on the same plane.
Some polygons have special names, depending on how mane sides they have:
• Triangles - 3-sided polygon;
• Quadrilaterals - 4-sided polygon;
• Pentagon - 5-sided polygon;
• Hexagon - 6-sided polygon;
• Octagon - 8-sided polygon;
• Decagon - 10-sided polygon;
N-sided polygons with equal angles are called regular polygons. N-sided polygons with different angles are called irregular.

The most popular ones are triangle and quadrilateral. Both of them have subsets. For triangle it is isosceles, equilateral and right triangles. Also all polygons are distinguished by equality of their angles. A polygon with equal angles is called regular, the opposite one is irregular.
